Jamie Lee Curtis Honors Late Mother Janet Leigh on 22nd Anniversary of Her Death
The actress shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, remembering the iconic star.
Jamie Lee Curtis, 67, recently paid tribute to her late mother, actress Janet Leigh, marking 22 years since her death at age 77. Curtis shared a black and white photo of Leigh on Instagram with a caption that read, "Long time gone this day. Love and misses to my mother."
Leigh died in 2004 at her home in Beverly Hills after a year-long battle with vasculitis. She was widely celebrated for her role as Marion Crane in Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 thriller "Psycho."
This tribute comes several months after Curtis lost her sister, Kelly Curtis, who died at age 69 in May.
Curtis and Leigh shared the screen in several projects, including an episode of "The Love Boat" in 1978, John Carpenter's 1980 horror film "The Fog," and "Halloween H20: 20 Years Later" in 1998. Curtis's father, Tony Curtis, a star of films like "Some Like It Hot" and "Spartacus," died in 2010 at age 85.
In a 2021 interview with People, Curtis reflected on her upbringing as the child of famous actors, noting the challenges of navigating fame and diminishing work opportunities. She recalled watching her parents undergo cosmetic procedures and the difficulty of maintaining a career in Hollywood. Curtis herself admitted in a 2025 interview with Variety that she initially had no clear career path and fell into acting by accident, describing herself as a "D+ student" with "no tangible abilities" before her breakout role in "Halloween" in 1978.
Curtis also shared in an interview that her mother would have likely disapproved of her appearance in her Oscar-winning role in "Everything Everywhere All at Once." Curtis stated that her mother's generation placed a high value on physical appearance, and she believed Leigh would have been "incredibly upset" to see her with her "tummy sticking out," as Curtis felt her mother's life was centered on beauty. Curtis added that she has a greater freedom to be herself now than her mother's generation experienced.
Curtis has been married to Christopher Guest for nearly 42 years and has two children, Annie and Ruby.
