Jamie Foxx is set to star in "Deadlocked," a new action film in development for Amazon's Prime Video. Directed by Indian filmmaker Nikhil Bhat, known for his work on Hindi action thrillers like "Kill" and "Apurva," the movie will be released globally on the streaming platform.
The original screenplay for "Deadlocked" is penned by Eric Scot Anderson, creator of "The Black Fox," and Matt Takejiro Bosack, known for his work on "NCIS: Hawai’i." Foxx will also produce the film through his Foxxhole Productions, alongside Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Fred Berger of Range Media Partners, and Dave Caplan of C2 Motion Picture Group.
"Deadlocked" follows a grieving former Marine who is serving jury duty. The situation escalates when the trial of the century devolves into a deadly hostage crisis after the defendant's daughter seizes control of the courthouse in an attempt to free her father.
This role marks Foxx's return to leading an action movie following a challenging production period for the 2025 Netflix film "Back in Action." During the filming of that movie in 2023, Foxx experienced a medical emergency that he later disclosed involved a brain bleed and stroke. He has since recovered and is ready to take on new projects.
Filming for "Deadlocked" has not yet begun, and a release date has not been announced. However, based on typical film production timelines, a release on Prime Video could be anticipated as early as summer 2027. Further details regarding the production and filming schedule will provide a clearer picture of the potential release window.
