Former Liverpool and England footballer Jamie Carragher is facing a bankruptcy petition due to an unpaid tax bill. Filings indicate that a petition was filed against James Lee Duncan Carragher on Wednesday by lawyers representing HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

HMRC, the UK's tax authority, stated that it engages with customers who have tax debts to help them resolve their financial obligations, often offering installment plans. A spokesperson for HMRC noted that petitioning for bankruptcy is considered a last resort.

Carragher, who played for Liverpool from 1996 to 2013, is a well-known figure in football punditry, frequently appearing on Sky Sports' Premier League coverage, the Stick To Football show, and CBS Sports' Champions League broadcasts.
