James Corden and Ruth Jones Reunite for New Apple TV Series "The Choir"

James Corden and Ruth Jones, known for their roles as Smithy and Nessa in the beloved BBC series "Gavin & Stacey," have reunited to film scenes for a new Apple TV+ series titled "The Choir." The pair will star as estranged siblings Ben and Lisa in the eight-part comedy-drama, which they have also co-written. The series brings the duo back together after "Gavin & Stacey" concluded on Christmas Day in 2024.

Filming for "The Choir" took place at a marina in the south-east of England, where Corden and Jones were seen shooting dramatic scenes. In one sequence, their characters, part of a community choir, were on a floating pontoon that began to sink, sending the cast tumbling into the water. The RNLI was involved in the rescue efforts depicted in the scenes.

Jones plays Lisa, while Corden portrays Ben, who is described as misunderstood and reluctantly returning to his sister's town after living abroad. This new collaboration marks a departure from their "Gavin & Stacey" characters, with Jones noting that their popular on-off romance storyline reaching a resolution effectively marked the end of that series. She previously stated that seeing Smithy and Nessa living together would not work, a sentiment Corden agreed with, suggesting their story had reached its natural conclusion.

"The Choir" is expected to explore the dynamic between the siblings as they are brought together through the community choir. While "Gavin & Stacey" fans had speculated about potential spin-offs, the creators have indicated that the series has concluded. Jones expressed her enthusiasm for continuing to work with Corden, emphasizing their enjoyable collaboration in writing and creating together.

Prior to the filming of "The Choir," Corden and Jones, along with "Gavin & Stacey" co-star Rob Brydon, were seen celebrating Jones's 60th birthday at a social club in Wales. Corden was pictured working behind the bar, while Jones celebrated with family and friends.
