Democratic strategist James Carville has intensified his criticism of left-wing streamer Hasan Piker, calling him an “idiot” and stating that he cannot speak for the group of “left-wing idiots” associated with him. Carville, a prominent figure in Democratic politics, also urged the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) to remove the word “Democratic” from its name.
Carville, speaking on Fox News, declared that Piker is neither a Democrat nor someone whose actions he would defend. "There’s two things that I know about Hasan Piker. One, he’s an idiot, and two, he’s not a Democrat. So, I don’t answer for idiots, and I don’t answer for people who are not Democrats," Carville said.
This is not the first time Carville has publicly targeted Piker. Earlier, Carville had stated he would leave the Democratic Party if Piker became a leading voice within it, asserting that a large majority of Democrats shared this sentiment. He characterized the Democratic Party as a “big tent” with an admission policy and indicated that Piker was not someone the party wanted to admit.
Piker, who gained attention for a controversial 2019 comment suggesting "America deserved 9/11," has also expressed negative views of Carville. During a recent stream, Piker remarked, “We got John Fetterman, James Carville, fantasizing about leaving the party — I’m like, you’re sweetening the deal.”
Carville also directed his criticism at the DSA, arguing that the organization benefits from associating itself with the Democratic Party. He proposed that the DSA should rebrand itself as simply "Socialists of America" if it disavows the Democratic name. "What I would tell a Democratic socialist — ‘If you hate the Democratic brand so much, why use our words? Go call yourself something else. Call yourself the Socialists of America,’" Carville stated.
According to Carville, the DSA's policy positions and values, such as advocating for police defunding, are not in alignment with the Democratic Party's platform. He asserted that the word "Democratic" in the party's name represents a legacy of civil rights, women's rights, balanced budgets, and prosperity, and that other groups should not use it.
Carville had previously warned that democratic socialists were damaging the Democratic Party's brand.
