Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville has sharply criticized Oliver Larkin, a candidate running in Florida's 25th Congressional District primary on the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) ticket. Carville referred to Larkin and other DSA members as "motor mouths" and "a pack of fools."
Carville's remarks come after Larkin suggested it was time for strategists like Carville to "take a back seat" to newer voices. In response, Carville told Fox News Digital that DSA members "has the attribute of every DSA member in the country, and that is he has a motor mouth."
Larkin, a 33-year-old veteran of Sen. Bernie Sanders' 2016 presidential campaign, is challenging incumbent Democratic Rep. Jared Moskowitz in the newly drawn district. Moskowitz has the backing of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) and is indirectly supported by AIPAC, a pro-Israel political group.
Larkin, who has received support from figures like political streamer Hasan Piker, stated that "Democratic socialism can win in any district, in any race, for any office all across the country." He expressed pride in carrying the "torch forward as a DSA candidate."
Larkin suggested that establishment Democrats like Carville are seeing their influence diminish as a new generation rises. He also characterized it as "very foolhardy to be excluding people from the Democratic Party that they're going to be begging for our votes in 2028."
Carville, a prominent figure in the Democratic Party since his role in Bill Clinton's 1992 presidential campaign, has frequently spoken out against the successes of far-left and socialist candidates in Democratic primaries. These contests have been widely viewed as a reflection of the party's ongoing ideological debates.
