James Carville Slams Peltola Staffers as 'Pussified' After NYT Report

Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville has sharply criticized former staffers of Alaska Senate candidate Mary Peltola, referring to them as "pussified" and too "delicate" to work in the demanding environment of political campaigns. His remarks came in response to a New York Times report detailing alleged "chaos" and "angry outbursts" within Peltola's congressional office and Senate campaign.

Carville, in a video posted to the Politicon channel, stated that political candidates under pressure often do not have time to be overly courteous to staff. He contrasted this with his own campaign experiences, where he said staffers did not receive recognition until they had proven themselves. "You didn't have a f—in' name until you did something," Carville said. "When I ran campaigns, you didn’t have a f—in’ name until you did something... Go do something else. Go be a social worker. They’ll give you a name right away."

He suggested that while egregious behavior is unacceptable, everyday demands on campaign staff are part of the job. "If you’re that f—in’ delicate, if you’re that much of a some kind of a honeysuckle, whatever it is, go do something else with your life," Carville asserted. "You’re too weak. You’re too soft."

Carville also commented on the scrutiny faced by female political candidates, suggesting it is unfair. He concluded by urging Democratic staffers to focus on their work rather than their feelings, stating, "just put your head down, work your a– off and save the country and f— your feelings."

Other political commentators offered nuanced views on the situation. Doug Schoen, a Democratic strategist, agreed with Carville that political campaigns require a "thick skin" due to their intensity. However, Schoen also acknowledged that the alleged actions by Peltola were inappropriate. He speculated that the allegations, while serious, might not significantly impact the election's outcome, framing it as a referendum on Donald Trump.

Former RNC national spokesperson Elizabeth Pipko echoed the sentiment that campaign life is exceptionally demanding and not for everyone. She agreed with Carville's assessment of the intensity and ruthlessness of campaign cycles, particularly as Election Day approaches, noting that candidates and staff often face extreme pressure and lack of sleep. "Campaign life is not for the faint of heart. In fact, I’d argue campaign life is not for most people, and that’s OK," Pipko stated.

Peltola's campaign and The New York Times did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
