Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville has offered a new prediction for former President Donald Trump's potential endgame, suggesting Trump will resign from the presidency by April 15.

Carville elaborated on his theory during a recent episode of "The Daily Beast Podcast," forecasting that Trump would instruct Vice President JD Vance to pardon him for all potential offenses as he leaves office.

"He’s going to lose so decisively in November,” Carville said of Trump. “His power is going to just seep right out. No one’s going to even care. People really don’t care what he says anymore.”

Carville argued that Trump's influence is already diminishing and would accelerate if Republicans suffer significant losses in the 2026 midterm elections, potentially leading to congressional investigations into Trump's administration.

According to Carville's scenario, Trump would resign and then have Vance, who would be sworn in as president, issue a broad pardon. "He calls in JD Vance, and he says, ‘JD, I’ve decided I’m going to resign. I’m going to go back. You’re going to be the president, but your first act, that I have right here, as soon as you’re sworn in, you’re going to sign a pardon. Pardon me for everything imaginable.’"

Carville acknowledged the legal uncertainty surrounding a president's ability to self-pardon, stating, "There is some doubt as to the legality of a self-pardon" and suggesting Trump would not want to risk it. He asserted that Vance, as president, would possess the authority to issue such a pardon.

Even if Trump were to serve his full term, Carville predicted he would still resign two days prior to secure the pardon. "That guy is not going to take any chance with this at all and just to believe the contrary is just to be an idiot,” Carville stated. He believes Trump fears potential legal consequences after his presidency and would prioritize avoiding them through a pardon.
