Longtime Democratic strategist James Carville suggested that the Republican Party’s inaugural midterm convention, heavily featuring Donald Trump, could have an unintended negative consequence at the ballot box in November. Carville described the two-day event in Dallas as a potential misstep for the GOP.
Appearing on “The Daily Beast Podcast,” Carville posited that no one within the Republican party might ultimately benefit from the convention. He has been a vocal critic of former President Trump and previously predicted Trump would not secure a second term. Carville characterized the convention as a "giant money-making operation," noting reports that photo opportunities with the president are priced at $88,600.
Carville also urged journalists to provide extensive coverage of the event. He argued that reporting on the convention could serve as beneficial news for Democrats, potentially exciting and mobilizing their base. "Let people know about it," he stated. "You’re not gonna come up with any better news that’s gonna excite and irritate and turn out more Democrats."
