James Buckley, known for his role in the comedy series The Inbetweeners, has disclosed a diagnosis of a genetic condition that places him at a high risk for cardiovascular events. The actor, 38, revealed in the podcast "The Buckleys" that he has Lipoprotein(a), a genetically inherited form of blood cholesterol.
Buckley stated that he sought further testing after a previous blood test raised concerns, prompted by his wife Clair being hospitalized for severe dehydration. His Lipoprotein(a) levels indicate an increased risk of plaque buildup in arteries, inflammation, and blood clotting, conditions that can lead to cardiovascular incidents. This condition typically presents no symptoms until a significant event occurs and affects approximately one in five people globally.
In response to the diagnosis, Buckley has significantly altered his lifestyle. He has stopped drinking alcohol and reduced his intake of takeaway meals. He described the situation as a directive from his doctor to "change." Buckley also expressed concern that his two sons might have inherited the genetic condition.
This health news follows reports suggesting a potential third movie for The Inbetweeners is in development, with the core cast reportedly signing on for a new Netflix project. The original series ran for three seasons between 2008 and 2010, followed by two film adaptations.
