James Blunt Appears with Wife Sofia Amidst Hayden Panettiere Memoir Speculation

Singer James Blunt attended a book launch event with his wife, Sofia, on Tuesday. This public appearance marks the first time Blunt has been seen since he addressed speculation linking him to claims made in Hayden Panettiere's memoir, "This Is Me: A Reckoning."

Blunt, 52, and his wife of 12 years were photographed at The Franklin Hotel for the launch of Amanda Wakeley's new book, "Style DNA: How to Dress with Confidence." Blunt appeared relaxed, holding a beer, while Sofia, dressed in a coordinated outfit, had her arm around his waist.

Last month, Blunt shared a link to a Substack article that argued against his involvement in the incident described by Panettiere. The memoir, released posthumously, details an encounter from when Panettiere was 18 years old. She wrote that a friend introduced her to a British singer-songwriter, then in his 30s, who was found naked in a cabin on a yacht. Panettiere alleged that her friend urged her to get into bed with the musician, but she ultimately refused and left the situation, feeling betrayed by her friend.

Internet speculation had pointed to Blunt as the unnamed musician, partly due to a photograph of him and Panettiere from Cannes in 2009 and a contemporaneous article suggesting they were flirty. However, the Substack article shared by Blunt, written by journalist Dean Piper, disputed the timeline. Piper noted that the photo was taken when Panettiere was nearly 20 years old, making the alleged encounter at age 18 impossible for Blunt to have been involved in.

Blunt's representatives had previously denied any insinuations connecting the singer to Panettiere's memoir when contacted by media outlets.

Panettiere died in August at the age of 36 from a suspected overdose. She was in Greenville, South Carolina, with her on-off boyfriend Brian Hickerson at the time. Investigators believe she may have overdosed on a fentanyl-laced pill. Hickerson administered Narcan after finding her unresponsive, and authorities are reportedly working to trace the source of the fatal pill.
