Actress Jameela Jamil has stated that "British people are truly the most evil people in history," during a recent appearance on the US podcast Yestergays. The California-based star, a friend of Meghan Markle, further likened Britain to the Marvel Comics villain Thanos, asserting that "we colonised the world."

Jamil's comments come after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's 2022 Netflix series, "Harry & Meghan," featured contributors criticizing the Commonwealth. One commentator in the documentary described the organization as "Empire 2.0," while another stated it "had not changed a thing [since colonial days], they just got better PR."

The Good Place star recalled a disagreement with Michael Schur, the director of the NBC comedy-drama, who wanted to make her wealthy British character, Tahani Al-Jamil, more likeable. Jamil explained her stance, saying, "British people, especially rich British people, aren't likeable to anyone, they're horrible, they're awful." She stated that Schur ultimately opted for a "passive aggressive b****y version."

Jamil, 40, previously appeared on Markle's Archetypes podcast in 2022, where she expressed sympathy for the Duchess, telling her, "It's an unfathomable amount of s*** that you take, Meghan." Jamil also featured in the 2019 edition of British Vogue, which Markle guest-edited.

Last year, Jamil discussed her decision to move to California, explaining her dissatisfaction with her experience in England. "I went over there because I was sick of England," she said. "[I was sick of] being made to feel at 28 that my time was up, being told to reinvent myself. I've never heard of a man being told he needs to reinvent himself in his 20s."

She added, "I'd been told for 17 years that my 15 minutes [of fame] is going to be up soon. At what point are we going to stop panicking women? It's so preposterous. I was offended by the way I was being treated, so I went to America."
