Wide receiver Jalin Hyatt, previously on the roster bubble for the New York Giants, has shown signs of progress in a new capacity during training camp. Hyatt worked as a punt gunner, a departure from his previous role as a returner during special-teams drills.
During one-on-one repetitions, Hyatt utilized his speed to gain an advantage downfield, drawing a penalty from an opposing player. He also connected with quarterback Jameis Winston for a touchdown pass during practice.
Observations from Wednesday's training camp also noted the starting defense conceding three consecutive touchdown passes to the second-team offense from within the 10-yard line. Safety Tyler Nubin was noted as having given up a deep catch and a short reception prior to one of these touchdowns. In offensive line drills, left tackle Andrew Thomas successfully blocked two defenders during an 11-on-11 period. Thomas was temporarily removed from a play due to a false start penalty.
Separately, cornerback Dru Phillips appeared to sustain a lower right leg injury during practice but is considered to have a minor injury. He briefly left the field for attention before returning to the sideline. Other players managing minor injuries include outside linebacker Brian Burns, wide receiver Malachi Fields, and safety Beau Brade.
