Jalen Hurts Leads Eagles to Last-Second Victory Over Titans
Philadelphia overcomes early struggles and a late deficit to defeat Tennessee 24-20 and remain undefeated.
The Philadelphia Eagles secured a 24-20 victory over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, extending their season record to 2-0. The win, however, came down to the final seconds of the game, with Jalen Hurts connecting with Darius Cooper for a 3-yard touchdown with less than 10 seconds remaining.
The Eagles faced an uphill battle for much of the afternoon in Nashville. Their offensive struggles began on the opening possession when running back Saquon Barkley suffered a stinger. The initial drive, which consumed over seven minutes, ended in an interception returned 92 yards by Amani Hooker, leading to the Titans' opening touchdown.
Despite early setbacks, the Eagles managed to take a 14-10 lead in the second quarter with a touchdown run from Tank Bigsby and a scoring pass from Hurts to DeVonta Smith. However, the Titans narrowed the gap with a field goal just before halftime, making the score 14-10.
After a third-quarter field goal extended Philadelphia's lead to 17-10, the Titans responded with two rushing touchdowns from quarterback Cam Ward, taking a 20-17 lead late in the game. A crucial 41-yard completion from Ward to Elic Ayomanor and a significant third-down conversion by Tyjae Spears helped set up a go-ahead field goal for Tennessee, giving them a 23-20 lead with under two minutes remaining and no timeouts for the Eagles.
Hurts then orchestrated a game-winning drive, converting a key third-down with a 20-yard pass to Dontayvion Wicks and completing three passes to Smith for 34 yards. A 19-yard reception by Smith placed the Eagles at the Titans' 3-yard line with 20 seconds left.
On the ensuing drive, Hurts' pass to Cooper secured the victory. Cooper finished the game with one catch for three yards and a touchdown, the first of his NFL career. Hurts completed 26 of 37 passes for 264 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. Smith was a key target, recording 10 catches for 117 yards and a touchdown.
For the Titans, Ward passed for 183 yards and added two rushing touchdowns. Despite being outgained by the Eagles 341-291 in total yards and losing the time of possession battle by nearly 13 minutes, Tennessee held a late lead.
The Eagles' two close victories to start the season, both by a combined six points, have raised questions about their performance despite remaining undefeated.
