Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter has found an unexpected keepsake in a $5 bill that began as an inside joke between quarterback Jalen Hurts and his wife, Bryonna "Bry" Burrows. Hurts shared the story of how Burrows placed the bill in his backpack for training camp, an act that quickly turned into a unique gesture for Carter.

During a press conference, Hurts recounted giving the $5 bill to Carter, placing it on his chest and saying, "Let me put five on top of that." This moment occurred shortly after Carter finalized a four-year contract extension worth up to $160 million, with $106 million guaranteed, making him the highest-paid defensive tackle in NFL history. The quarterback expressed his excitement for Carter, stating, "We just had a little fun. He's a great competitor, great player. He's disrupting practice out there today. Just excited for him to be able to focus on what's to come and move forward."

Carter, when asked about the bill, humorously suggested it would have been worth more if Hurts had signed it. "I said if he would’ve signed it, it'd probably be worth $500," Carter said with a laugh. "But, I got it held. It's at the house, though. I literally held it all day. It fell out of my pockets with teammates giving it to me. It was a funny moment, though."

Carter's recent contract followed a 2025 season where he recorded 12 quarterback hits, four tackles for loss, three sacks, 33 total tackles, and 29 pressures. He attributed the smooth contract negotiation to his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, and his mother, who handled most of the communication while he focused on his summer training.

Since being drafted ninth overall in 2023 out of Georgia, Carter has spent three seasons with the Eagles. He described Hurts as a significant figure in his career, calling him "my guy" and a "big brother" whose presence brings a "different feeling" to the team. Carter emphasized that his conversations with Hurts are always serious and supportive.

In the 2024-25 season, Carter was instrumental in the Eagles' Super Bowl victory, contributing two pressures and two quarterback knockdowns against Patrick Mahomes in the championship game. The team is now preparing for the upcoming season, aiming to improve on their 11-6 record from the previous year, despite the recent trade of wide receiver A.J. Brown to the Patriots.
