Jalen Brunson's Championship Hat Still Sealed Four Months Later
New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson admits he hasn't opened the bag containing his NBA championship hat due to its potent aroma of celebration.
Jalen Brunson, a key player in leading the New York Knicks to their first NBA championship in 53 years, has revealed a unique aspect of his championship celebration: he has yet to open the bag containing his commemorative hat.
Four months after the Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals, Brunson shared on his podcast, "Roommates Show," with teammate Josh Hart that the championship hat remains unopened. When asked about the hat, Brunson admitted, "Mine is still not washed, it’s in the bag and I’m afraid to open it." He elaborated that the bag contains the lingering scents of "Champagne, sweat, cigars, food, beer, tequila."
The Knicks secured their championship by defeating the Spurs in five games, marking the franchise's first title since 1973. Brunson delivered a standout performance in the clinching Game 5 on the road, scoring 45 points in a 94-90 victory.
Following their historic win, the team celebrated with a championship parade through Manhattan. Brunson has also engaged in numerous public appearances, including hosting a season-opening episode of "Saturday Night Live."
Brunson has since fully recovered from wrist surgery performed in the offseason, an injury he played through during the championship run. The Knicks are set to begin their title defense on Tuesday, hosting the 76ers at Madison Square Garden. The team will receive their championship rings and raise their championship banner during the opening night ceremony.
