Jalen Brunson Becomes First Knicks Player to Host SNL

Jalen Brunson, the star point guard for the New York Knicks, made history on Saturday night by becoming the first player from the franchise to host "Saturday Night Live." Brunson helmed the season 52 premiere of the iconic sketch comedy show, which featured musical guest Katseye.
Brunson, who recently turned 30, appeared on stage at 30 Rockefeller Plaza shortly after celebrating a significant personal and team achievement. His hosting gig followed the Knicks' NBA championship win, which ended the team's 53-year title drought. During his opening monologue, Brunson reflected on his "pretty good summer," playfully referencing the recent NBA championship and his return to Madison Square Garden.
He also quipped about the venue, joking about its proximity to where Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce reportedly married in July. Brunson's monologue also featured fellow Knicks players Josh Hart, OG Anunoby Jr., Mikal Bridges, and Karl-Anthony Towns, who were in attendance and later joined him on stage. The players engaged in a Q&A session with Brunson, where he humorously addressed topics such as fouling out of "SNL" and his contract re-signing with the Knicks.
Brunson also playfully confronted Hart about a viral moment from December 2025, where Hart's celebration of winning the NBA Cup involved an unusual gesture. Brunson's appearance on "SNL" places him in an exclusive group of athletes who have hosted the show. He is the fifth NBA player to do so, following in the footsteps of Bill Russell, Michael Jordan, LeBron James, and Charles Barkley. He is also one of only three athletes from New York-based teams to host, alongside former Giants quarterback Eli Manning and Yankees legend Derek Jeter.
Ahead of the show's taping, Brunson showed his appreciation for fans who braved inclement weather to secure tickets. NBC pages distributed Levain cookies to dedicated fans waiting outside the studio. Brunson himself also ensured that over 100 people in line received the cookies, demonstrating a connection to the city and its fans.
