Jake Reiner has spoken out about the profound grief and anger he is experiencing following the murders of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, in December 2025. In his first public interview since the tragedy, Reiner described his emotional state to KABC-TV's Marc Cota-Robles.
"It manifests into rage, into how unfair this was, how I didn't get a say in what happened," Reiner, 35, stated. "I had no choice in the matter. I just have to accept the reality of it. And to me, that is just one of the most infuriating parts of all of this."
He expressed a deep sense of bewilderment, adding, "I'll never understand. I don't care how it's explained to me. I don't care what facts come out. I will never understand why this happened."
Rob and Michele Reiner were killed in their California home. Their son, Nick Reiner, 32, was subsequently arrested and is awaiting trial for the slayings. Jake Reiner confirmed that he has not spoken to his brother since the arrests, noting that Nick is currently incarcerated.
"I mean, he's in jail so… you know, it's like I physically lost my parents and then Nick was arrested and now it's just me and Romy," Jake Reiner said, referring to his sister, Romy Reiner.
Reiner recalled the "unconditional love" his parents, who were 78 and 70 at the time of their deaths, had for their children. He specifically mentioned his parents' continued efforts to support Nick, who had struggled with drug abuse and was diagnosed with schizophrenia.
"I can tell you they never stopped wanting to help him. They never stopped helping him," he said of Nick. Reiner also referenced "Becoming Charlie," a 2015 film based on Nick's life, describing it as an attempt by their father, Rob, to connect with his youngest son.
