Jaguar has revealed the interior of its forthcoming Type 01 Grand Tourer, a £120,000 electric flagship designed to lead the brand's transformation into an ultra-premium electric vehicle manufacturer. The car, set for its world debut in New York on October 6, showcases a minimalist cabin intended to make "every journey an occasion."
The interior's most distinctive feature is a central spine running the length of the cabin, creating four distinct seating areas and emphasizing the car's "longitudinal" design philosophy. This architectural element contributes to a lower seating position than typically found in electric cars, a characteristic noted during early prototype testing. The lowered seats are made possible by splitting the 120kWh battery pack beneath the floor, which also helps maintain the car's relatively low roofline of 1.4 meters.
Instead of a traditional central touchscreen, the Type 01 incorporates a wide high-definition display that serves as both the instrument cluster and extends into the dashboard. A smaller digital screen integrated into the central spine controls cabin climate and seat functions. Drivers interact with illuminated, flush-mounted controls on a twin-spoke steering wheel for navigation and voice commands.
The vehicle also features a "Digital ClearSight Rear View Display" at the base of the windscreen, which streams footage from a roof-mounted camera, eliminating the need for a conventional rear window, a feature also seen in the Polestar 4. This display is integrated into the car's front soundbar.
Materials play a significant role in the interior design, with brass-inspired finishes on the central spine and door tops. The cabin includes four individual seats with broad backrests designed for enhanced comfort.
Thomas Holden, Jaguar's chief interior designer, described the philosophy as translating the vehicle's exterior presence into a distinctive interior architecture. "With authentic materials, technology on demand and reductive flowing surfaces, Type 01 presents unmistakable drama and theatre that will define the modern luxury automotive interior of the future," he stated.
Rawdon Glover, Jaguar's managing director, added that the Type 01 is the first production model embodying the company's new creative philosophy. "With Type 01, we wanted every journey to be an occasion, from how it drives to how it looks and how it makes you feel," he said.
The Type 01 will feature a three-motor setup with a single motor at the front and two at the rear, delivering over 1,000 horsepower. The car will utilize advanced torque vectoring technology. The 120kWh battery is expected to provide an estimated range of around 430 miles on a single charge. The Type 01 is scheduled for its full unveiling on October 6, with first UK deliveries expected in early 2027.
The brand's shift to an ultra-premium EV strategy has been met with criticism, with some, including former US President Donald Trump, labeling its 2024 brand campaign as "woke."
