Jacqui Lambie Slams Pauline Hanson Over Cartoon Mocking Health Condition
Senator Lambie calls out One Nation for 'nastiness' and 'hatred' after a social media cartoon referenced her vaginal prolapse.
Senator Jacqui Lambie has strongly criticized One Nation leader Pauline Hanson for publishing a cartoon that referenced Lambie's vaginal prolapse, labeling the move as "nastiness" and "hatred" at a time when Australians are facing cost-of-living pressures.
During an interview on ABC Radio National, Lambie stated that Australians "don't need the nastiness" and that political leaders should offer better discourse. The cartoon, shared on Pauline Hanson's social media accounts, depicted Lambie supporting the government's proposed digital duty of care bill, which aims to enhance online protections for children. The cartoon portrayed the bill as a crackdown on free speech, with a caricature of Lambie referencing her "prolapsed vagina" to explain why she couldn't laugh at a satirical element within the cartoon.
Lambie argued that the cartoon crossed a line by trivializing a serious medical condition that affects many women. "Decent leaders don't stir up hatred, pushing us towards bloody anarchy, because that's exactly what she's doing," Lambie said. She added that such actions do nothing to solve real-world problems and could incite unrest.
Lambie has previously spoken openly about her experience with vaginal prolapse, aiming to encourage women to seek treatment and discuss health issues that are often considered taboo. She expressed that those close to Hanson, particularly the men in the party, should urge her to remove the cartoon immediately, suggesting they were being dragged down by her actions.
Labor frontbencher Tim Ayres also condemned the cartoon, stating on the Today show that it unfairly targeted a health condition experienced by "tens of thousands of Australian women." Ayres praised Lambie for continuing her senatorial duties despite experiencing significant pain.
One Nation leader Pauline Hanson was contacted for comment.
