Jacoby Brissett has finalized a reworked one-year contract with the Arizona Cardinals, reportedly worth $15.5 million and potentially reaching $21 million with incentives. The quarterback, who had expressed frustration with his previous deal that offered limited guaranteed money for the 2026 season, stated that negotiations "got dark a couple of times" before an agreement was reached.
Brissett, 33, had not participated in 11-on-11 drills since training camp began but returned to practice after the contract resolution. "It's your livelihood, it's business and it's part of this game," Brissett told reporters on Sunday. "You want to be out there with the guys and that causes another stressor. I'm glad it's over with." He added that seeking the raise was a matter of "having respect for yourself."
Brissett is expected to compete for the starting quarterback position against Gardner Minshew and Carson Beck. He indicated that while the contract is settled, he still needs to earn the starting role. "I think I've got to go out there and prove it," Brissett said. "I don't think it's a given just because a deal gets done."
He is scheduled to work with the team's starters beginning Tuesday as he prepares for the upcoming season.
