Jack Tweed, the widower of the late reality television personality Jade Goody, has been charged with a drug-driving offense. The 39-year-old is accused of driving under the influence of cannabis after being pulled over by police in December of the previous year near Chelmsford, Essex.

Tweed was allegedly found to have 5.6 micrograms of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol per liter of blood in his system, a level prosecutors claim was three times over the legal limit. Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol is the active component of cannabis, which is classified as a Class B drug.

Essex Police confirmed that Tweed was arrested on Three Mile Hill in Chelmsford on December 6. He has been charged with driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit.

If convicted, Tweed faces a potential prison sentence of up to six months and a mandatory one-year driving ban. Court records indicate that the charge was filed in March, and an initial hearing scheduled for May was adjourned until the upcoming Monday.

Tweed married Jade Goody in February 2009. Goody, who rose to fame on the reality show Big Brother, died of cervical cancer in March 2009 at the age of 27. Tweed, who has also appeared on the reality show The Only Way is Essex, is reportedly still close to Goody's sons, Bobby and Freddy.
