Jack Nicholson Has Retired From Acting, Confirms Michael Douglas

Jack Nicholson, the iconic actor known for his intense performances and numerous accolades, has retired from acting, according to his close friend Michael Douglas. Douglas shared the news while promoting his memoir in South Wales, stating that Nicholson is "not working any more."

Douglas, who collaborated with Nicholson on projects including the 1975 film One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, clarified that Nicholson is in good health and "up there by his house and walking around in his slippers." The actor, who is 89, has not publicly announced his retirement, but he has gradually withdrawn from public life.

Nicholson's last film appearance was in the 2010 romantic comedy How Do You Know. In 2017, he was slated to star in a remake of the German comedy Toni Erdmann, but he withdrew from the project, causing it to be derailed. In a 2013 interview with Vanity Fair, Nicholson stated he did not consider himself retired but was simply less driven to "be out there any more."

Nicholson, a three-time Academy Award winner, earned Oscars for his roles in Terms of Endearment, As Good as It Gets, and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. He made a rare public appearance last year at the Saturday Night Live 50th Anniversary Special, which fueled renewed interest in his acting status.
