Jack Antonoff Jokes About Split From Margaret Qualley After Wedding Song Request
The musician quipped 'absolutely not' when a fan asked him to play 'Let's Get Married' during a Los Angeles performance.
Jack Antonoff has broken his silence on his separation from Margaret Qualley with a candid, lighthearted remark.
The musician, 42, and the actress, 31, confirmed their split in July, after three years of marriage.
During a performance at The Troubadour in Los Angeles on September 15, Antonoff addressed the separation when a fan requested he play his 2017 track "Let’s Get Married."
"Absolutely not," Antonoff quipped in response, according to a social media video of the moment. "Read the news, brother." He then laughed and clarified, "I love that song and I wrote it, like, 11 years ago."
At the time Antonoff wrote the song, he was in a relationship with Lena Dunham, whom he dated from 2012 until 2017. Dunham recently announced she welcomed a daughter via surrogate.
Antonoff and Qualley, who have an 11-year age gap, were last publicly pictured together at the Grammy Awards on February 1. Their separation occurred one month before their third wedding anniversary.
Qualley's representative told TMZ on July 10 that "no infidelity" or "trust issues" led to the end of her marriage to Antonoff. Sources also told Page Six in July that the couple has "no plans to reconcile" and are "done for good," though they remain in respectful communication.
Antonoff previously drew attention when he attended Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's July 3 wedding festivities with his sister, Rachel, as his date, rather than Qualley.
Qualley changed her Instagram handle back to her legal name, Sarah Margaret Qualley, around April 28, and deleted photos from their wedding. She had previously shared a birthday tribute to Antonoff on March 31 with the caption, "Happy birthday sweetheart."
Earlier this year, Qualley appeared hesitant when asked about an upcoming album by Swift, for which Antonoff was not the primary producer. "I don't know anything," she stated, adding, "I'll be excited to listen to the music."
Mention of Antonoff not producing Swift's latest record, which was instead helmed by Max Martin and Shellback, contrasted with his long-standing role as Swift's main co-songwriter and producer on albums like "Midnights" and "The Tortured Poets Department."
The couple first became romantically linked in August 2021 and appeared to confirm their relationship in March 2022 at the Critics' Choice Awards. They married at Parker's Garage in Long Beach Island, New Jersey, with notable guests including Swift, Cara Delevingne, and Lana Del Rey in attendance.
Antonoff's past relationships include engagements to photographer Carlotta Kohl and actress Scarlett Johansson. Qualley was previously linked to Nat Wolff, Pete Davidson, and Shia LaBeouf.
