Former New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern was seen shopping at a Woolworths supermarket in Sydney, dressed casually and appearing to blend in with other shoppers. The sighting comes several months after she and her husband, Clarke Gayford, purchased a $5.3 million mansion in the Sydney beachside suburb of Dee Why.
Ardern, wearing a denim shirt, blue trousers, aviator sunglasses, and sneakers, was seen with two bags of groceries as she returned to her car. She had reportedly been house hunting in Australia in February, joining a trend of New Zealanders relocating overseas.
The Dee Why property is described as an architecturally designed, five-bedroom, three-bathroom home featuring extensive glass to maximize views of the coastline and city skyline. The residence includes multiple living spaces, indoor-outdoor entertaining areas, private balconies, and a swimming pool. The purchase price marks the highest sale in the area this year, more than double the suburb's median house price.
Ardern resigned as Prime Minister in 2023 and subsequently spent time in the United States and as a fellow at Oxford University in the United Kingdom. A spokesperson stated that the family is currently based in Australia for work and to allow more time back in New Zealand.
The couple's move to Australia was reported earlier this year after they were seen viewing properties on Sydney's Northern Beaches with their daughter, Neve.
