Ja'Marr Chase Suffers Concussion in Bengals' Loss to Jaguars
The star wide receiver was ruled out of the game after a frightening hit in the second quarter.
Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase was sidelined with a concussion during the team's 22-17 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, October 4, 2026.
Chase sustained the injury with 12:02 remaining in the second quarter after a hit along the sideline. He was attended to by medical staff and then taken to the blue medical tent for evaluation. He was later ruled out of the game with a concussion.
The play involved Jaguars cornerback Jarrion Jones pulling Chase’s facemask, and linebacker Ventrell Miller delivering a high tackle. Officials penalized Jones for the facemask infraction, but no flag was thrown on Miller’s tackle, which appeared to involve the crown of his helmet, according to the CBS broadcast crew.
Chase was listed as questionable to return at halftime. He had recorded three receptions for 27 yards before exiting the game. The loss of Chase, coupled with a subsequent injury to fellow receiver Tee Higgins in the fourth quarter, leaves the Bengals with limited healthy receiving options. Coach Zac Taylor indicated that the team would adapt.
"We just have to make it work, and for the most part we did. Never felt like, ‘Man, we can’t do this because of who we got’. If you make our roster on offense, you’ve got something to ya," Taylor said postgame.
The Bengals, who started the season undefeated in September, now fall to a 2-2 record after this loss. Chase has been ruled out for the upcoming game against the Miami Dolphins, further impacting the team's receiving corps, which is projected to have only Mitch Tinsley and Dohnte Meyers available.
