William Paul Getty, grandson of oil magnate J. Paul Getty, and his wife Vanessa have acquired a nearly $20 million mansion in Dallas, signaling an expansion of his business interests in Texas. The couple purchased the Mediterranean-style estate, located at 3515 Crescent Avenue in Highland Park, in June.

This acquisition includes an 11,400-square-foot residence situated on half an acre. The home features seven bedrooms, nine-and-a-half bathrooms, a temperature-controlled wine cellar, a media theater, a game room, and a five-car garage with a pool. The property was reportedly sold by José Roberto Quiroz Mata and María Isabel Mata Torrallardona, members of the board of Dallas-based Grupo Bimbo Bakeries.

A spokesperson for the Gettys stated that William Getty is in the process of opening an office in Dallas and that the couple plans to continue spending significant time in the city. "Billy has been looking to further expand his portfolio and is excited about the business opportunities in Texas," the spokesperson told the California Post.

Despite the move to Texas, the couple maintains properties in California and Hawaii and has not sold their San Francisco or Hawaiian homes. William Getty, also known as Billy, is the son of Gordon Getty. California Governor Gavin Newsom grew up among Gordon Getty's four sons. Newsom detailed in his memoir that his friendship with Billy Getty deteriorated due to Billy's resentment of Newsom's close financial and personal ties to Gordon Getty, who ultimately supported Newsom.

J. Paul Getty founded Getty Oil in 1942, which was later acquired by Texaco in 1984. The family's substantial fortune originates from this oil business. In recent years, other members of the Getty family have also sold significant properties. Gordon Getty sold his Berkeley mansion for $5 million in 2024, and heiress Aileen Getty sold her Malibu home for $14.1 million in 2017 before relocating to New York City.

Vanessa Getty, a San Francisco socialite and philanthropist, was also in the news last year due to an incident where she was accused of hitting a parked car while searching for her glasses. The senior driver of the parked vehicle is suing Getty for unspecified damages, claiming a traumatic brain injury from the collision.

Highland Park is a prominent area within Dallas's luxury real estate market, attracting numerous wealthy buyers. The timing of the Gettys' purchase comes as some high-net-worth individuals have been relocating from California, although the couple retains their West Coast presence.
