The superyacht Samsara, reportedly owned by "Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling, has docked in a Los Angeles marina with its name obscured. The 290-foot vessel, valued at approximately $150 million, was spotted at Marina del Rey beginning Sunday.

Despite efforts to conceal the yacht's identity, locals and social media users reportedly identified the ship as Rowling's Samsara. The California Post cited sources describing the situation as "the worst-kept secret on the Marina."

Superyacht broker Chris Cecil-Wright told Fox News Digital that while concealing a yacht's name is uncommon, owners may take such measures for privacy or to avoid attention during specific events. He noted that Automatic Identification System (AIS) tracking is often switched off to make vessels less easily identifiable when at anchor or in port.

"Particularly when you're a recognizable face or name, it becomes increasingly difficult to be able to relax anywhere in public," Cecil-Wright said. "So being on a private yacht, which is often sort of looked at as a private island, is the real luxury."

The Samsara, built by Oceanco and delivered in 2015 under the name Infinity, was reportedly purchased by Rowling in 2023. The yacht can accommodate 12 guests and a crew of 26, and features amenities such as a swimming pool, cinema, and a beach club. Its estimated annual running costs are up to $15 million.

Rowling, who was a single mother relying on government assistance before the success of the "Harry Potter" series, has become one of Britain's wealthiest authors, with a net worth estimated at $1.2 billion by Forbes in September 2024. Superyachts offer a blend of luxury and seclusion for high-profile individuals seeking privacy.
