Rapper J. Cole's scheduled concert in Sacramento, California, was canceled Thursday morning following the death of a touring crew member in a trucking accident. The accident occurred on southbound Interstate 5 near Woodland, California, around 6:00 a.m. when a semi-truck carrying equipment for the artist overturned.
Authorities reported that no other individuals were in the truck at the time of the incident. The Golden 1 Center, the venue for the concert, confirmed the cancellation via a statement on Instagram, expressing condolences to the crew member's family and loved ones.
The truck was reportedly hauling gear from J. Cole's previous tour stop in Seattle. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the driver was attempting to steer the truck back onto the freeway after it drifted onto the right shoulder when it overturned. The driver was extracted from the wreckage and airlifted from the scene, but was later pronounced dead. The driver's identity has not yet been released.
While the cause of the accident is still under investigation, CHP Sergeant David Barker stated that possibilities such as driver distraction or falling asleep at the wheel are being considered. The truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
J. Cole's current tour is in support of his seventh studio album, "The Fall-Off," released in February. This tour marks his first solo headlining tour in five years. The rapper's next scheduled performances are in Oakland, California, on Saturday and Sunday, followed by dates in Los Angeles on Tuesday, September 1, and Thursday, September 3. It remains uncertain if these upcoming shows will be affected by the incident.
J. Cole, born Jermaine Lamarr Cole, gained prominence in the music industry after releasing his debut mixtape, "The Come Up," in 2007.
