An Israeli television crew from i24NEWS was assaulted by a man who appeared inebriated in Belfast, Northern Ireland, on Sunday. The crew was in the city to film a documentary series focusing on antisemitism in Europe.
The incident occurred in a popular bar area where reporter Yonatan Raveh and cameraman Nadav Abbas were interviewing people on the street. A man exited a nearby bar, confronted the journalists with the expletive-laden phrase "F–k Israel," and threw a glass object at them. The object struck Abbas in the head, causing a superficial cut.
The assailant also attempted to take the crew's camera equipment. The report did not indicate if a police complaint was filed.
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) condemned the attack on X, formerly Twitter, stating, "Two journalists were targeted in Belfast for being Israeli while documenting antisemitism in Europe. The story they were documenting became their own. This is global antisemitism in action, and we condemn it."
According to a 2021 census, Northern Ireland has the smallest Jewish population among the United Kingdom's four constituent countries, with 439 individuals identifying as Jewish. A 2025 report by the Community Security Trust, a Jewish community watchdog, noted 22 cases of antisemitic incidents in Northern Ireland, ranking it 16th out of 46 areas in the UK for the absolute number of recorded incidents.
