Israeli Defense Forces soldiers apprehended a terrorist in the Hebron area of Judea over the weekend who was planning a shooting attack against Israeli civilians during the Rosh Hashanah holiday, the military announced on Monday.

According to a military statement, the individual, identified as Abd al-Rahman, intended to carry out the attack in the immediate timeframe. The arrest operation was conducted with guidance from the Israeli Security Agency (Shin Bet).

"IDF soldiers continue to operate to thwart terrorism throughout Judea and Samaria," the military stated.

In preparation for the High Holidays, which began on Friday and conclude on Oct. 3, the Israel Police announced on Sept. 9 that it would deploy thousands of officers, Border Police personnel, and volunteers nationwide. These forces are tasked with maintaining public order and security, ensuring freedom of worship, and providing rapid response to incidents. Officers are to be stationed at holy sites, places of worship, major roads, parks, and entertainment venues.

The Israel Defense Forces conducted a surprise nationwide exercise on Sept. 6 to test its readiness for large-scale, multi-front scenarios ahead of the holiday period. Similarly, the Israel Police held a nationwide exercise in July to test its preparedness for terrorist attacks and civilian emergencies.
