Israeli Diplomat Invites Mayor Mamdani to View Oct. 7 Documentary

Ambassador Ofir Akunis has invited Mayor Zohran Mamdani to view a 47-minute film documenting the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks, utilizing footage captured by the terrorists themselves. Akunis stated the documentary's aim is to "convey the reality of what happened" and to foster understanding of "why the Jewish State is so important and why we will continue to defend ourselves."

The invitation comes as the anniversary of the terror attacks approaches, a time when anti-Israel protests are anticipated in New York City. This development follows Mamdani's recent plan to combat antisemitism, which reportedly included only a brief mention of Israel and omitted any reference to Zionism.

Mamdani, who has been a vocal critic of Israel since his election in Albany, has previously advocated for boycotts, divestments, and sanctions. He had also attempted to introduce legislation to limit state funding for non-profits supporting Israeli settlements in the West Bank.

During his campaign, Mamdani reportedly softened his public stance but declined to affirm Israel's right to exist as a Jewish state. He also made public statements about arresting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, though he later acknowledged the city's lack of authority to detain a foreign official.
