Israel's UN Envoy Demands Mayor Mamdani's Arrest

Israel's Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, has called for the arrest of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, citing Mamdani's previous statements about potentially arresting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his upcoming visit to New York.

"If someone should be arrested, it's Mayor Mamdani for inciting, for actually collaborating with the enemy of the United States," Danon stated during a press conference on Thursday, as reported by C-SPAN. Danon accused the mayor of fostering antisemitic sentiment.

Prime Minister Netanyahu is scheduled to visit New York next week to address the UN General Assembly. Danon expressed his hope that the mayor would focus on ensuring a smooth visit for the international delegation rather than inciting protests.

"The mayor is supposed to make sure we have a quiet week with less traffic and issues — but he’s doing the exact opposite," Danon said. "He’s inciting, calling for people to demonstrate against our prime minister but none of that will stop us."

Mamdani, who has been a vocal critic of Israeli policy, previously stated in July that he was seeking a legal avenue to arrest Netanyahu over alleged war crimes. This stance was a recurring theme during his mayoral campaign in late 2025 and has been reiterated on social media.

Danon's remarks also touched upon Israel's ongoing security concerns, including threats from Hamas, Hezbollah, and ISIS, as well as Israel's presence in Syria.

This exchange occurs as Netanyahu prepares for his address at the UN General Assembly, an event expected to draw significant international attention and diplomatic activity in New York City.
