ISIS Terrorist Allowed to Stay in UK, Concerns Raised Over Deportation Risks

Iraqi national Mohammed Yaseen, who served in a unit responsible for public executions with the Islamic State (Isis), has been allowed to remain in the United Kingdom, with authorities concerned about his safety if returned to his home country. Yaseen was recently released from prison after serving a six-month sentence for illegally entering Britain and was housed in a bail hostel in Windsor, near Windsor Castle.

Yaseen's past includes involvement with Al Qaeda and later Isis, where he served as a security guard during stonings, beheadings, and mass executions. A German court heard in 2020 that he was involved in bomb attacks targeting U.S. troops and acted as a security guard for Isis during executions, including those of children.

His presence in the UK has drawn criticism from politicians, particularly given the security proximity to Windsor Castle, where King Charles was set to host foreign dignitaries. Concerns have been raised about the cost to taxpayers, with estimates suggesting legal aid and accommodation could cost hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Yaseen arrived in Germany in 2015 and claimed asylum. He was arrested in 2018 and convicted in 2020 for membership in Isis, receiving a sentence of four years and nine months. Upon completion of his sentence, German authorities attempted to deport him to Iraq, but a judge ruled against it, citing a risk of mistreatment or execution.

He entered the UK in December, crossing the English Channel on a small boat. He provided a false name to officials and was initially placed in a migrant hotel before biometric checks revealed his identity. A court at Winchester Crown Court heard Yaseen had a "deeper and lengthy involvement in terrorism and Islamic extremist ideology."

Following inquiries from The Mail on Sunday, Yaseen was reportedly recalled to prison hours later, with a Ministry of Justice source stating he had breached his good behavior requirements at the bail hostel and was no longer in Windsor.
