Isaiah Williams Focuses on Next Play After Muffed Punts

New York Jets returner Isaiah Williams is determined to move past his recent struggles after muffing two punts in a game against the Green Bay Packers. The miscues, which occurred in rainy conditions, did not result in turnovers due to recoveries by his teammates, but Williams acknowledged their unacceptability.

"Personally, my own standard says that’s unacceptable regardless of circumstances — but it’s something to learn and grow from," Williams stated. "In that moment, it sucked, but the beautiful thing is we recovered both of them — thank God for [Qwan’tez] Stiggers making that happen."

Williams, who was waived and then re-signed by the Jets approximately a year ago after a similar punt miscue, emphasized his approach to overcoming errors. "That’s life — we’re going to go through stuff, everything isn’t always going to be perfect, we’re going to make mistakes. But you can’t let one moment ruin a game or a season. You bounce back, learn from it, and keep moving forward."

Jets coach Aaron Glenn, who coached Williams previously in Detroit, expressed confidence in his player's ability to rebound. "I know that player very well and the one thing that I do know about him is, if he has an issue, there are going to be intentional reps to make sure he fixes that issue," Glenn said. "So, that’s one guy I’m not worried about at all. I think you guys should know that."

In other team news, quarterback Geno Smith was fined $11,941 for taunting during the loss to the Packers. The Jets also elevated wide receiver Sterling Shepard from the practice squad for the upcoming game against the Detroit Lions. Additionally, wide receiver Jamaal Pritchett was signed to the active roster, bringing the total number of receivers to six. This move comes as wide receiver Adonai Mitchell is listed as questionable with a finger injury. Kicker Jason Sanders has also been elevated from the practice squad for the third consecutive week.
