Designer and television personality Isaac Mizrahi is returning to his performance roots with a new cabaret show titled "Hooray!" The four-night engagement opens Wednesday at 54 Below in New York, featuring Mizrahi's takes on songs by artists like Billie Eilish and Blondie.

Mizrahi described the set list as "all carbs, pure sugar, pure spaghetti," adding that "if you want morals, get tickets for ‘Death of a Salesman,’ because there you will get that." He chose the title "Hooray!" because it's a word he uses frequently in daily communication.

A native of Brooklyn, Mizrahi pursued performing before his fashion career launched in the late 1980s. He has previously performed in cabaret shows and made his Broadway debut in 2022 as Amos Hart in "Chicago." Mizrahi expressed a desire for his multifaceted talents to be recognized, noting the trend of stars embracing diverse creative outlets.

Despite the show's generally lighthearted tone, Mizrahi plans to address current events through his rendition of Laura Nyro's 1968 song "Save the Country." "How do you avoid being in a room with a bunch of smart people without making a few jokes about where we are?" Mizrahi asked. "The only way we’re going to get through this, darling, is to make jokes about it."

Mizrahi's recent professional activities include being named Target's first creative director at large in June. He has collaborated with the retailer since 2002, advocating for accessible design. "I don’t know why you have to pay like $800 for a sweater when a $40 sweater can be great," he stated about his work with Target, emphasizing his desire to help the company revive its concept of "design democracy."

Additionally, the 1995 documentary "Unzipped," which chronicles Mizrahi's 1994 runway collection and features supermodels like Naomi Campbell and Cindy Crawford, is set for a theatrical re-release in September. Mizrahi views the re-release as an opportunity to showcase American fashion from the 1990s.

Mizrahi hopes "Hooray!" will extend beyond its New York run with additional U.S. engagements before he brings back his holiday show, "A Holiday Fruitcake," in December. His message for the "Hooray!" show is simple: "Start doing what you’re going to do. Start living your best life."
