A television host and aspiring actress has filed a lawsuit against Apple, alleging that a stalker used an AirTag to track her movements in Los Angeles and that the company failed to provide adequate assistance. The lawsuit claims the incident caused the host, Aine O’Neill, to experience significant fear and ultimately abandon her life in the U.S. for Ireland.
O'Neill discovered the AirTag in November 2022 when she received an alert on her iPhone indicating a tracking device was with her. She later realized the device was attached to her car. According to the lawsuit, she and her roommate were unable to locate the AirTag. The suit states O’Neill learned that the owner of the AirTag could monitor her whereabouts, including her workplace and residence.
Following the discovery, O’Neill contacted both the Los Angeles Police Department and Apple. The lawsuit asserts that authorities and the company indicated they could offer little assistance without the physical AirTag. Police described the situation as "sinister," according to court documents. Attempts to locate the AirTag at auto shops proved difficult and costly, with one shop suggesting a full car disassembly would be required.

She stated in the lawsuit that she felt like a "zombie" and was "barely able to get out of bed."
Fearing for her safety and unable to ascertain the level of danger or identify the stalker, O'Neill decided to leave Los Angeles. The lawsuit claims this decision forced her to give up a potential recurring role on the television series "The Rookie" and other career opportunities. She sold her car for scrap, gathered her belongings, and returned to Ireland. O'Neill also stated she remains fearful of driving.
Previously, O'Neill was part of a class-action lawsuit against Apple concerning AirTag safety. She is now pursuing an individual claim for damages to be determined at trial. Apple has been contacted for comment.
