A woman from Ireland was arrested at Gran Canaria Airport on suspicion of fraud after allegedly failing to pay a hotel bill totaling £2,113. The suspect, who was traveling with her partner and child, had stayed at the all-inclusive resort for 11 nights.

According to police, the reservation was secured using a bank card as a guarantee. However, when the hotel attempted to process the payment after the family's departure, the transaction failed. Hotel staff reportedly made multiple attempts to contact the woman to resolve the payment issue. She initially indicated an intention to pay, citing issues accessing her bank card as she was already at the airport, but subsequently ceased communication without settling the debt.

National Police officers located and apprehended the woman at the airport's Border Control Post as she was preparing to leave the island. She was taken to a police station in the southern part of Gran Canaria and subsequently handed over to judicial authorities. The specifics of her court hearing remain unknown.

A police spokesman stated that the investigation began after the hotel management filed a complaint regarding the family's departure without payment. The force emphasized its commitment to safeguarding the tourism sector in the Canary Islands.
