Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a warning on Thursday that an "aggressor will be punished today," according to the state-run IRNA outlet. The IRGC further stated that any country that assists the United States militarily will be met with a "harsh response."
These statements follow missile and attack drone launches by Iran targeting Jordan and Kuwait. In Kuwait, the assault struck a building belonging to a Chinese company in the northern part of the country, resulting in the death of one worker and significant damage, according to the nation's defense ministry. The incident was reported via a post on X.
In Jordan, air defense systems successfully intercepted five Iranian ballistic missiles, a military source told the official Petra News Agency. The source described the interception as "efficient and professional," preventing any targeting of the kingdom's territory and resulting in no casualties.
Meanwhile, the Egyptian government reported that an initial investigation indicated a drone was responsible for a fire aboard two ships at Damietta Port, located on the Mediterranean coast. The incident occurred a day prior to the reported attacks in Jordan and Kuwait.
While no group has claimed responsibility for the attacks, Iranian sources indicated to The New York Times that the strikes were intended to demonstrate the potential for deeper disruption of global shipping and energy supplies should Iran choose to escalate. Tehran is widely believed to be behind the drone strike.
