Iran’s current Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has vowed revenge for the killing of his predecessor and father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The vow was made in a written message released on his Telegram account on Saturday, coinciding with funeral ceremonies for his father.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in U.S.-Israeli airstrikes on February 28, according to the notes. Mojtaba Khamenei stated that avenging his father’s death is “the demand of the nation” and “must certainly” be carried out. He pledged to avenge “the blood of the martyred leader and all the martyrs of these two wars from the criminal and disgraced killers.”
