Iran launched a drone strike targeting the United Arab Emirates on Monday, an act that the UAE has condemned as a violation of its sovereignty, security, and stability. The UAE's Defense Ministry confirmed the drone was intercepted over territorial waters, refuting Iranian claims that it had struck the Al Minhad Air Base in Dubai.

This incident represents a new wave of retaliation in a conflict that has intensified following recent U.S. airstrikes on Iranian launchers. U.S. President Donald Trump has vowed a strong response to Iran's actions, posting an AI-generated video depicting Iran's Kharg Island oil hub being destroyed.

Anwar Gargash, a diplomatic advisor to the UAE's president, characterized the ongoing situation as unacceptable, stating that the state of "neither war nor peace" is not a sustainable solution. He criticized the targeting of Arab Gulf states and Jordan as a failed policy and called for realistic political solutions that extend beyond a previously failed memorandum of understanding. Gargash emphasized the need to de-escalate the conflict, restore normal navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and develop a more practical and acceptable roadmap for regional stability.

The UAE, which had previously severed trade ties with Iran, warned that it would not hesitate to retaliate against any military aggression from Tehran. Qatar, acting as a mediator in the region, also condemned the attacks on the UAE and Jordan. Doha cautioned that a return to active warfare would further destabilize the region and complicate diplomatic efforts aimed at containing tensions and achieving security and stability.

Ships are navigating the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments. The exchange of blows between the U.S. and Iran has been ongoing for more than six months, creating an increasingly volatile environment in the Middle East.
