Iran has not received any of the $6 billion in frozen assets that the United States pledged to release, Qatar confirmed on Tuesday. The confirmation comes ahead of planned technical talks in Doha, where an Iranian delegation is expected to discuss the frozen funds.
Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al Ansari stated, "So far, no funds have been transferred." The US intends to disburse the funds in small, incremental payments directly to vendors as Iran makes progress in key negotiation areas, such as opening the Strait of Hormuz and making nuclear concessions. Iran, however, has argued for the funds to be delivered in a lump sum.
Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are also in Qatar, though they are not scheduled to meet directly with the Iranian delegation.
