Investigation into Pregnant Former Soccer Star's Death Could Take Months

The investigation into the death of Kayla Saager-Beckley, a 30-year-old pregnant former Division I soccer player, could take several months to conclude, according to the Tulsa County Medical Examiner’s Office. Saager-Beckley collapsed and died unexpectedly 10 minutes after a workout last week in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

"A report won’t be available until we have concluded all of our tests — which will take roughly three to six months," a spokesperson for the medical examiner's office told The Post on Wednesday.

Saager-Beckley, who was from East Islip, New York, was recently married to John Beckley, the outside linebackers coach at Tulsa University. The couple was expecting their first child, a daughter they planned to name Sawyer.

Tulsa head coach Tre Lamb announced Saager-Beckley's death during a press conference on Monday. "It’s just been a really hard week for [Beckley,] for us as a staff, our coach’s wives," Lamb said. "She was 30 years old. She was pregnant with their daughter, Sawyer. It’s been tough on our staff. We had a memorial for her last night. We just ask that you please pray for the Saager family, the Beckley family."

Lamb added that the team would wear special helmet stickers in her memory during their next game.

Saager-Beckley's alma mater, Binghamton University, also confirmed her death in a news release last Thursday. During her two seasons at Binghamton, Saager-Beckley scored 22 goals and was described as "one of the most feared strikers" to play for the Bearcats. She served as team captain, graduated in 2019, and was recognized as a two-time all-region player and the 2017 America East Striker of the Year.
