Interest Rates on Fixed Savings Accounts Reach Three-Year High

Interest rates on fixed savings accounts have reached their highest point in three years, with top accounts now offering 5% and above, according to data from Moneyfacts. This marks the best period for savers in years, offering enhanced returns on locked-away cash.

Fixed-rate savings accounts require customers to commit their funds for a predetermined period, typically between one and five years, in exchange for a guaranteed interest rate. This guarantee ensures that savers benefit even if market rates decline during their term.

Moneyfacts reported significant rate increases across various savings products, including fixed and easy-access ISAs. The highest rate currently available on a taxable fixed-rate bond is 5.37%, offered by GB Bank on a five-year fix. For tax-free ISAs, the best rate is 5.25% on a five-year fix from Shawbrook Bank.

Caitlyn Eastell, a personal finance expert at Moneyfacts, noted that while volatile swap rates have presented challenges for borrowers, they have created a more favorable environment for savers. "This could make a meaningful difference to savers whose money is currently sitting in lower-paying accounts or those whose existing fixed bonds are coming up to maturity," Eastell stated.

Rates have seen consistent increases throughout 2026. The average one-year fixed rate climbed for the seventh consecutive month to 4.41%, the highest since September 2024. Longer-term fixed rates rose for the eighth month to an average of 4.49%, the highest since December 2023. These sustained increases are the most consistent seen since 2023 and 2022, respectively.

For tax-free ISAs, the average one-year fixed rate ISA increased to 4.39%, its highest point since August 2024. The average long-term ISA rate rose to 4.44%, the best since December 2023.

Savers are advised to review their current accounts to ensure they are not receiving sub-optimal rates, particularly from high-street banks which often offer lower returns. For example, some major banks offer as little as 1% on easy-access savings, while accounts like Hodge Bank's easy-access option provide 4.01%. Even accounts with initial bonus rates may see a significant drop after the introductory period, such as Tesco Bank's easy-access internet saver, which falls from 3.19% to 1.05% after 12 months.

Beyond rising rates, the number of available savings deals has also expanded significantly. In October 2026, there were 2,654 savings and ISA deals on the market, up from 2,642 in September. The number of cash ISA deals reached an all-time high of 762 in October, marking the third consecutive monthly increase. This increased competition among providers offers savers more opportunities to find favorable rates.
