An inquest has been opened into the death of Madeleine Trask, a 22-year-old woman who died following an incident at Langar Airfield in Nottinghamshire on July 5.
During a brief hearing at Nottingham Coroner’s Court, the assistant coroner was told Ms. Trask suffered a head injury. No further details regarding the circumstances of her death were disclosed.
Ms. Trask had been employed at Skydive Langar, located at the airfield, as a parachute packer for three and a half years, according to her social media. She previously attended Berkhamsted School and was a former President of the University of Nottingham’s Skydiving club.
Nottinghamshire Police confirmed in July that a 22-year-old woman was found in a nearby field and pronounced dead at the scene following a skydiving incident. The police were called to Langar Airfield at 12:13 p.m. on July 5. Ms. Trask was identified to a police officer at the scene at 1:54 p.m.
A post-mortem examination provisionally determined the cause of death as a head injury.
Langar Airfield, a former Royal Air Force station, has hosted Skydive Langar since 1977. It is described as the busiest civilian skydiving centre in the UK, facilitating over 50,000 jumps annually.
Skydive Langar stated in July that the incident involved an experienced skydiver and expressed devastation at the loss. British Skydiving, which regulates the activity on behalf of the Civil Aviation Authority, also launched an investigation.
The inquest was adjourned by Assistant Coroner Karen Boyle to a date to be fixed. She offered her condolences to Ms. Trask's family and friends.
