Inquest Hears of 11-Year-Old's Exposure to Harmful Content Before Suicide
A coroner is considering calling Discord representatives to give evidence in the inquest into the death of Mia Christopher, who was exposed to 'sexual' and 'suicide' content.
An 11-year-old girl who died by suicide had accessed "sexual" and "suicide" content on the social media platform Discord, an inquest has been told. Mia Christopher died shortly into the summer holidays last year. Her parents believe she was a victim of bullying, having found a note that read: “Mom I’m being bullied please leave a angel beside my gravestone.”
Mia had gained access to Discord, an online platform with an over-13s policy, and had also been exposed to content on TikTok and used Snapchat. The inquest in Horsham, West Sussex, heard that Mia had made repeated comments on Discord about her intention to take her own life.
Coroner Penelope Schofield indicated that Discord could be named as an “interested party” and a representative could be called to give evidence. Representatives from Mia’s school, Sussex Police, and experts from West Sussex County Council’s social services are also expected to provide testimony. Mia, a pupil at Southway Primary School in Bognor Regis, was found dead on July 20, 2025. Her family described her as a talented, smart, and funny girl who was looking forward to high school.
Her sister, Iesha, shared a tribute stating: “We are heartbroken to share that our beloved sister Mia took her life at the young age of 11 due to bullying.” She urged others to “take a stand against bullying and to prioritise childhood mental health.”
