The cause of death for a three-month-old girl found in a tent on a camping trip remains unascertained, an inquest heard Wednesday. Lacey May Oxford died after going into cardiac arrest at approximately 8:45 a.m. on September 5 in a tent located near a fishing pond in Great Wyrley, Staffordshire.
Her death prompted a murder investigation, leading to the arrest of four individuals who have since been released on conditional police bail. The group includes a 42-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman from South Staffordshire, a 20-year-old woman from Wolverhampton, and an 18-year-old man from Walsall, West Midlands.
West Midlands Ambulance Service contacted Staffordshire Police on the morning of the incident. The infant was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:06 a.m. Coroner Lindsay Tonks stated that the infant was found in a tent at a makeshift encampment within woodland off Strawberry Lane, approximately half a mile from the nearest road.
A pediatric forensic post-mortem examination has been conducted, but the precise medical cause of death is yet to be determined. Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding Lacey's death are ongoing and are being treated as unexplained.

The family noted they are also awaiting details regarding the circumstances of the death.
Detective Inspector Josh Lee of the force's child protection team assured the local community that efforts are underway to investigate the incident. He confirmed the arrests were made on suspicion of murder, but emphasized that the investigation is in its early stages, with an open mind regarding the circumstances. Police are treating the incident as isolated and urged the public to avoid sharing unconfirmed claims.
Staffordshire Police stated that officers are continuing their inquiries and will provide further updates as the investigation progresses and information becomes available.
