A full inquest has been scheduled for next year to examine the death of Lee Claydon, a 45-year-old Oasis fan who died after falling from a balcony at Wembley Stadium. The incident occurred on August 2 of last year during one of seven sold-out shows by the band on their Live '25 reunion tour.
Senior coroner Andrew Walker announced at a pre-inquest review hearing at Barnet Coroner's Court that the inquest would take place over two weeks, beginning February 15. An alternative start date of March 1 was mentioned if witnesses are unavailable during the initial period.
Claydon, a landscape gardener from Bournemouth, Dorset, died from 'multiple bodily injuries.' The Metropolitan Police concluded their investigation in November, ruling out suicide or third-party involvement and deeming the death a 'tragic accident.' A toxicology report found no concerns.
The fall reportedly happened at the end of the concert, as fireworks were being set off, following Oasis's performance of 'Champagne Supernova.' At an earlier hearing, the coroner had raised concerns about the safety of barriers and requested a report on their design, height, and placement. The barrier over which Claydon fell is understood to have been 1.1 meters high.
Oasis released a statement expressing their shock and sadness at the fan's death, extending condolences to his family and friends. Claydon's father described him as a 'lovely bloke' and a 'hard-working family man.' Tributes from family, including his brother, also highlighted his positive character.
Eyewitnesses described hearing screams and shouts following the fall, with one describing the scene as 'horrendous' and 'heartbreaking.' Another fan recounted mistaking the falling figure for a coat before realizing it was a person on the concrete below.
