A selfie taken by an inmate inside a New York federal jail, allegedly featuring disgraced rapist Oren Alexander and his cellmate, has prompted a federal investigation and a criminal complaint against the cellmate for possessing a prohibited phone. The photograph, submitted as evidence in a complaint filed on June 30, shows the cellmate, identified as multi-million dollar fraudster David Motovich, alongside a man whose face has been obscured by a gray redaction. Law enforcement sources have identified the redacted individual as Oren Alexander.

Contraband Evidence

The complaint against Motovich alleges he obtained a phone within the jail, a violation of prison regulations. Detectives seized the device and reportedly found over 500 contacts associated with Motovich. The selfie is presented as evidence of the phone's presence in the facility.

Oren Alexander, along with his twin brother Alon and brother Tal, were convicted in March on ten counts related to sex trafficking, conspiracy, and sexual assault. The brothers, formerly high-profile real estate brokers, are awaiting sentencing on August 6. They face a mandatory minimum of 15 years to life in prison for each conviction. The prosecution argued that the brothers used their wealth and influence to drug and sexually assault multiple women, with accusers detailing incidents at various locations, including homes in New York City and a vacation property in the Caribbean.

Motovich was previously found guilty in November of using his family's lumber business as a shell company to launder $10 million in checks for clients.

The Alexander brothers' trial involved testimony from 11 women. Prosecutors presented evidence including text messages, videos, and blog posts that they claimed detailed the brothers' predatory behavior. The defense had attempted to characterize the behavior as morally reprehensible but not criminal, an argument that was reportedly undermined by the jury's verdict. The brothers have pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In addition to their federal convictions, Oren and Alon Alexander also face three state rape charges in Florida. Oren Alexander is currently being held at the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center.
