Injury Exits Draw Contrast Between Quarterbacks
Jaxson Dart's self-assisted walk-off following an MCL injury is juxtaposed with Caleb Williams' emotional cart-off for a hamstring strain.
Two franchise quarterbacks experienced lower-body injuries in Week 2, leading to starkly different on-field departures. New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart sustained what is being reported as an MCL injury to his left knee during the first quarter of the team's game against the Los Angeles Rams on Monday night. He took an awkward hit mid-air and did not return to the contest.
Despite the potentially serious knee injury, Dart was able to walk off the field under his own power with a slight limp. This was in sharp contrast to the exit of Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams less than 24 hours earlier.
Williams suffered a non-contact injury during the fourth quarter of the Bears' loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. As he slid to the turf, he grabbed his left leg and appeared to be in significant pain, rolling and screaming. The visual suggested a severe injury, and Williams was subsequently carted off the field. Later reports indicated he had sustained a Grade 1 hamstring strain, avoiding the more catastrophic injuries initially feared.
The differing reactions and exits of the two quarterbacks, particularly Williams' highly emotional departure for a less severe injury, have drawn commentary and created a notable juxtaposition on social media.
